I loathe birthday parties.
It’s no secret. I don’t like having a bunch of other people’s kids in my house. I don’t like the chaos or the mess or the expense. I tend towards introvertedness (yep, that’s a word now!) and entertaining strangers and their children is just not how I want to spend a Saturday afternoon.
This year, we made the decision as a family to stop with the birthday parties and start a new tradition: Birthday weekend trips as a family!
The cost is about the same as that huge birthday party with friends and favors and rentals, but it’s fun you guys. It’s a blast. And we are building memories instead of accumulating more junk in the form of birthday presents (can I get an amen?!).
The kids have loved it, and now that we have been through all the birthdays in our family, I can look back and reflect on how this decision has enhanced our lives. Continue reading “Ashley Does: Choosing Adventure Over Stuff – A Birthday Weekend In Manitou Springs, Colorado (Part 1)”
I know you want in my kitchen, Instant Pot. I know you do. You and your shiny, new, young, fast lifestyle.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted about food.
Mostly because Joe and I have started a new lifestyle and I don’t cook the way I used to anymore. I don’t bake much and our meals look different to be sure.
It took some serious retraining since the New Way is so counter-intuitive to the Old Way.
It’s been almost four months and I am used to it now. I’m also two pants sizes smaller, heartburn free, migraine free, and feeling overall healthier. So it has definitely been worth it!
I bet you’re asking me, “Ashley, what are you doing?”
I will tell you, but you must prepare yourself first. Prepare your heart for something that you are not expecting.

Chocolate Milk Shakes have their own Day.
Did you know that?!
How have I lived this long without knowing about National Chocolate Milk Shake Day?
I feel kind of cheated. Continue reading “Ashley Does: Chocolate Milk Shake For Breakfast!”
I posted this a million years ago on another blog I ran – I HAD to share it with you all. I hope you enjoy it!
I can’t tell you how happy lasagna makes me. The orderly fashion with which it must be constructed. The beautiful colors. The cheese. It’s comforting from beginning to glorious end.
It’s a work of ooey, gooey art and it is one of my favorite meals to make.
It recently came to my attention that there are still people out there – people I know and love, y’all – who don’t know how to make lasagna. That is simply unacceptable and I am here to fix that unspeakable problem tonight.
