When I was growing up, I always knew I wanted to be a mom.

I had it all figured out: I would have three sons and then a daughter.

We would have lots of loud weekends full of sports games, the house would always be full of hungry boys, and I would get to be that mom who was beloved and spoiled by the men in her home.

Then, while I was busy making plans and God was giggling, I found out I was having a baby girl in the winter of 2007.

Ashley Does: What I’ve Learned During Our Low-Tech Summer (& A Printable!)

In the past few weeks, I have learned a lot about my children.

Summer has begun, and aside from Vacation Bible School, we haven’t really had anything planned.

No lessons. No camps. No scheduled anything besides play dates and chores. And we have scaled way back on how much tech time the girls get, too.

It’s been a boring, low-tech summer, and it’s been incredibly eye-opening to me as their mother.

A ragged, over-loved, no longer fuzzy stuffed moose named Moosey sits atop my daughter’s pile of clothes to pack for her first overnight trip with school.

He has been her constant companion for over 2 years now. They go everywhere together, he’s under her arm as she falls asleep at night, and she loves him fiercely.
